Apple has released iOS 26.2, a significant update for iPhone users that builds on the foundation set by iOS 26 and its much-debated “Liquid Glass” design language. More Control Over Liquid Glass
Apple’s “Liquid Glass” design has sparked debate since its debut, but iOS 26.2 demonstrates that Apple is responsive to user feedback. This update gives you much finer control over the translucent, glass-inspired interface, allowing for greater personalization of your device’s appearance.
Lock Screen Clock Slider: Customization for the Lock Screen clock now includes a dedicated opacity slider. Where iOS 26.1 only allowed users to choose between a “Clear” or “Tinted” look system-wide, you can now fine-tune the transparency of the clock material directly, giving you more control over your Lock Screen’s appearance.
Measure App Redesign: The built-in Level and Measure tools have been updated to incorporate the Liquid Glass interface. This visual refresh replaces flat elements with transparent, glass-like ones. For example, the Level tool now features two interacting Liquid Glass circles, adding a dynamic and modern touch.
Refined Animations: Menu animations throughout iOS have been tweaked to be more “bouncy,” better aligning with the aesthetic Apple previewed at WWDC 2025. This effect is noticeable when interacting with menus in apps like Photos or when editing Home Screen widgets.
A More Powerful Reminders App
The integration between Apple’s native apps continues to evolve. Building on the earlier link between Calendar and Reminders introduced in iOS 18, iOS 26.2 now deepens this synergy by connecting the Clock and Reminders apps. This integration unlocks new ways to manage critical tasks more effectively.
When creating a new reminder, you’ll now see an “Urgent” toggle. Enabling this option allows the Reminders app to schedule alarms and timers that can override an active Focus mode. If an urgent reminder comes due, your iPhone will trigger a full alarm, helping ensure you never miss a critical, time-sensitive task. This feature builds on the AlarmKit framework introduced in iOS 26 and is a valuable addition for productivity-minded users.
Smarter and More Secure AirDrop
AirDrop receives a notable upgrade in iOS 26.2, making file sharing both more secure and more convenient—especially when exchanging files with people outside your contacts. Previously, your choices were limited to “Contacts Only” or opening AirDrop access to “Everyone” for just a brief 10-minute window.
With iOS 26.2, you can now generate one-time AirDrop access codes, making file sharing simpler and more secure. These temporary codes allow someone outside your contacts to connect and AirDrop files with you for up to 30 days—ideal for short-term projects, events, or whenever you need to share content without adding a new contact. To review and manage these one-time access codes, go to Settings > General > AirDrop > Manage Known AirDrop Contacts.
Upgrades to Podcasts and Apple News
This update also delivers important improvements to Apple’s core system apps, with enhancements focused on navigation and content discovery.
Podcasts App
Automatic Chapters: The Podcasts app can now automatically generate chapters for episodes, making it easier to navigate long-form content even if the creator hasn’t manually added them.
Podcast Mentions: When a podcast is mentioned in an episode you’re listening to, you can now see and follow it directly from the player and transcript.
From This Episode: The app will now surface relevant links shared by the host on the episode page, so you no longer have to hunt for them.
Apple News App
Apple News now features a reorganized layout for effortless navigation. At the top of the app, a new row of buttons gives you immediate access to key sections:

Puzzles
Sports
The Sports section now appears in this new top row, joined by dedicated buttons for Search and Following—making it easier than ever to find your favorite stories and manage your preferences. This streamlined layout enhances navigation and puts more of what you care about right at your fingertips.
Other Notable Changes and Enhancements
In addition to its headline features, iOS 26.2 introduces a host of smaller yet impactful improvements throughout the system.
CarPlay: A new toggle allows you to manage pinned messages in CarPlay separately from your iPhone’s iMessage settings.
Sleep Score: The classification ranges for Sleep Score in the Health app have been adjusted for more accurate labeling of sleep quality.
Japan-Specific Updates: In compliance with new regulations, users in Japan can now set third-party virtual assistants (like Google Gemini or Amazon Alexa) as the default for the Side button and install alternative app marketplaces, such as AltStore PAL.
Offline Lyrics: The Apple Music app can now display song lyrics even when you are not connected to the internet.
