Apple has confirmed a major delay to the smarter Siri experience it promised back in 2024. The much-hyped upgrade wonāt arrive until 2026, as the in-house AI architecture didnāt meet Appleās high reliability standards.
š ļø Why the delay?
Appleās software chief Craig Federighi admitted the earlier version ājust doesnāt work reliably enough to be an Apple product.ā The company was juggling two different AI architectures ā one legacy, one new ā and together, they proved unstable.
Despite demos at WWDC 2024 that showcased personalized Siri capable of reading flight times from emails and calendars, the features were never shipped. They didnāt make it into iPhone 16 or iOS 18 updates, frustrating both insiders and users.

Apple is now exploring a new approach: outsourcing part of Siriās intelligence to external models like OpenAIās ChatGPT or Anthropicās Claude. These partnerships could power the next-gen Siri from Appleās own cloud, while maintaining privacy ā¦
